When the Going Gets Tough
“It’s an unusual feeling for a personal trainer: to be down with a broken left leg in two places and a torn ligament in the right leg and once again not to be able to walk. It’s a little discouraging-I have to be honest with you. However, I am not giving up on myself to heal nor on my clients that really need me,” Cooney said during an interview in her Upcountry studio.

Aloha to you dear friend and thank you.
I think motorcycles are more safe! Ha Ha. Be careful on yours and I’ll return your call shortly!
Your Delta Rio Vista buddy,
Suzie
Way to go, Suzie! Congrats on your new blog! I myself have begun learning how to run — I got a new pair of sneakers and have begun building up my endurance — but I also suffer from bad discs in my low back. Any advice from Trainer Suzie would be greatly appreciated!
Hey Leslie! Aloha and thanks! Good for you on your new running program. The first think that comes to mind is to find a softer surface to run on. Your discs will appreciate that and so will your knees. For example, we have the beach, you may have a track in the park or at a near by high school. Or, some parks or neighbors have lovely running trails on groomed dirt. That would be my first choice, for the scenery is always changing so you won’t get bored!
Secondly, I’ve had in the past, custom orthotics made for the foot bed of my shoe. You can have a sports medicine doctor make these, or sometimes a podiatrist can do them on site. They can be expensive so be prepared. There are also much cheaper inserts you can buy that really focus on supporting the low back specifically. Just remember to take out the one you may have in there, if you double up, your foot won’t slide in the shoe!
And last, be sure to perform really good hamstring stretches, low back and keep your core extra strong always! Having a strong core has made all the difference with my sciatica that often creeps up. Hope this helps!
Yours, Suzie!
Suzie: Great article! Thank you for inspiring me to get fit. I am in the best shape I’ve been in for at least 20 years and I owe it all to you. Your INSPIRATION has given me MOTIVATION that has produced great RESULTS in my overall health and fitness. Sending you healing light to quickly mend those bum wheels of yours. Casey
Casey dear friend! Hey, you need no inspiring! I’ve seen you workout really hard and with the tightest form I’ve ever seen! I may have to expand this screen because you may not fit on here with those muscles. Starting to walk today! The leg is tingly and it feels good to pump a little blood through there! Someone I know has a birthday coming up!?!?
